Thanksgiving Day

Today is a day off for me. It's a day that has long standing tradition in my family (which means that if I don't show up to my mother's house for dinner I will be on the s**t list).

My day will go like this, and it includes a little testosterone for CBW:

1. 6:00 am Wake up, head to bathroom for usual morning ... well you know.

2. 6:20 am Finally leave bathroom after reading half of Reminisce magazine that I have been reading for last 6 weeks ... make coffee, put on hunting garb.

3. 6:45 am Go outside and have a smoke ... realize it is cold outside

4. 6:50 am Go back inside and now put on boots I should have put on before smoking.

5. 7:00 am Fix cup of coffee in travel mug, fix thermos with coffee, load truck with hunting supplies: guns, knives, calls, deer piss, clothes, food, water, seats, stands, radios, etc.

6. 7:30 am Go to meeting spot to start hunt, must wait for everyone to get there.

7. 9:00 am Everyone finally gets there, go to deer stand and wait for the big one to come by.

8. 10:30 am Big chase is over ... never saw a deer or a dog or even a squirrel ... must now leave to go to Cool Breeze's mothers house which is half way across state.

9. 12:00 pm Arrive at mom's for "the meal". Eat a plate of food that has so many varieties of fare that they are piled on top one another in the form of one big mound of what amounts to be some multi-colored and multi-textered casserole ... eat three pieces of pie and some kind of chocalate thing in a bowl with cool whip on top.

10. 2:00 pm Leave to head back across state for home and a little afternoon "still-hunting"

11. 3:15 pm Get home ... go kiss BHE and ask about her day cooking for Friday ... sorry, honey, got to get in the woods quick before the big one walks by

12. 3:30 pm Find nice big tree in woods near deer rubs and scrapes, looks like the perfect spot ... lean against tree and wait

13. 4:30 pm Wake up from nap in the warm afternoon sun, won't be long now ...

14. 5:15 pm Go back to house now that it is dark, put away hunting gear, leftover uneaten food, clean out coffee cup, thermos, etc. ... turn on football game

15. 9:30 pm Wake up from second nap on sofa, get up, take off hunting clothes and go to bed.

Happy Thanksgiving to ME!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

The holidays always take me back to when I was a kid growing up in a small mill town in eastern Virginia. This was the time when all you had were three channels to choose from on tv (four, if you counted the fuzzy PBS station that only came in if it was raining or something). It was a much simpler time. An easier time I think to be a kid. Todays youth are bombarded with a gazillion channels to choose from on the menu now. They don't understand what a "tv event" means.

Back then the holiday tv shows were a family event that everyone looked forward to. Charlie Brown, that blockhead, and all of his friends were like family to me. They showed up every year for the holidays and were always on my things to watch list. I loved Snoopy so much that my first dog was a beagle. I named him Smokey though.

Here is a little tidbit of the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving ... still takes me back.

I hope to make more good memories this year.

Doans Pills

Why is it that the older I get, the harder it is to stay in shape and not become some huge fat ass. I try to go to the gym at least three or four days a week, I eat rabbit food (I mean salads) for lunch as much as I can stand them and we try to eat healthy at home. We eat very little pasta and bread and seldom eat desserts, well that are planned anyway. My problem is that I just can't get filled up at night for some reason. Man, one plate just doesn't do it for me and since there is always extra, why not go and fix another. You don't want leftovers filling up the fridge anyway. But sometimes that extra plate just isn't enough either.

Then the daughter will come in and say, "Hey dad, do you think I should bake some cookies?" Well, sure Sweetie, why not? They don't take long either. They are the ones that come prepackaged and all you have to do is put 'em on a baking sheet. There big too, and hot and chewy and delicious. Chocolate chip of course. The wife and daughter will usually eat a couple each, and they will bring me a couple too. Afterward, the wife will attempt to find a container for the remaining still warm and delicious, chocolatey, chewey devils still on the cookie sheet. "Oh, don't worry about dirtying up any container baby, I'll just finish those off for you".

This is why I fight the huge, fat ass look.

You are probably wondering about the title of this post by now, but I had to give you a little background first. Like I said before, I try to go to the gym on a regular basis. I lift more than I do cardio (which is my first mistake), and am sore a lot during the week. But this is the thing that gets me. Yesterday, I did a little thing like lean over my desk and my back fell out of alignment or something. Now I have some damn sharp pain that is aggrevating the hell out of me every time I move wrong. Don't worry. It will ease up after a couple of days. It always does.

This morning all I could think about were the old commercials for Doan's Pills that I used to see on tv as a kid, when I didn't understand what back pain meant.

The older I get, the more obvious it is.

It Begins

This is my first entry and since I really don't know where I will be going with this blog, I thought I would give you some facts about me and my interests. These so-called interests may not be the least interesting, but they will give you a bit of insight on where my future posts will be leading.

Here is a profile of me (or does it look like a resume?)

Name: Cool Breeze

Place of Birth: Richmond, Va

Residence: Eastern, Rural Va.

DOB: 1965

Sign: Capricorn

Family: Wife and daughter, dog and cat

Employment: Self Employed Small, Professional Business Owner

College Team: N.C. State Wolfpack

Pro Football: Dallas Cowboys

Nascar: Jeff Gordon

I like to hunt.

First Car: 1969 Camaro (I kick my self in the ass for ever selling it ... maybe I'll be able to own one again, someday)

My mother says I drink too much and that smoking will kill me like it did my 85 year old uncle.

I voted for McCain/Palin.

My father has passed away, but my mom is still a fireball.

I think the idiots in Washington, D.C. are going to make things tough on the people who actually support this country ... those of us who are actually accountable for the decisions we make ... not waiting for a handout or feel that we are entitled.

I love to sing, but I don't think I am very good.

I was cast in a national tv commercial as a principal actor the first time I ever went to a tryout.

I became licensed as a professional in my field of expertise at the age of 28.

My wife started a blog and since I felt like my feminine side was showing a bit too much after following her and her friends blogs, I thought I better just start my own.

I will be going off on issues and people at times, but not always. There are some good things I'll be sharing also ... hopefully more often than not.
