Happy Thanksgiving!

The holidays always take me back to when I was a kid growing up in a small mill town in eastern Virginia. This was the time when all you had were three channels to choose from on tv (four, if you counted the fuzzy PBS station that only came in if it was raining or something). It was a much simpler time. An easier time I think to be a kid. Todays youth are bombarded with a gazillion channels to choose from on the menu now. They don't understand what a "tv event" means.

Back then the holiday tv shows were a family event that everyone looked forward to. Charlie Brown, that blockhead, and all of his friends were like family to me. They showed up every year for the holidays and were always on my things to watch list. I loved Snoopy so much that my first dog was a beagle. I named him Smokey though.

Here is a little tidbit of the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving ... still takes me back.

I hope to make more good memories this year.

  1. I always loved the Charlie Brown holiday shows. My kids are spectacularly unimpressed. I suppose Peanuts pales in comparison to what is on Cartoon Network now. Welcome to blogland!

  2. Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the gang are the coolest...ooops, I mean after Cool Breeze.

I still love Camp Snoopy at Knotts Berry Farm in CA...fun!

  4. Dear Cool Breeze,

I watched Charlie Brown last night...I hollered to my kids to turn it on their TV and mentioned it was the one where Marcy tries to boil the eggs and put them in a toaster, etc. Of course, that is the EASTER Charlie Brown. Apparently some of my brain cells have died on me.

Be forewarned, your life is about to change drastically. This blogging thing is highly addictive, and so far I don't believe there's a cure.

Where's all this testosterone BHE talked about?

  5. It's so weird because I always expected my kids to get excited when the claymation Christmas specials that I loved as a kid came on. But it just wasn't a very big deal to them, I guess because there were really neat kid oriented things on tv all the time. It sure wasn't like that when we were kids... but, I guess that's what you were saying, huh?!

  6. Ah, Smokey... that brings back memories. I think he may have had a few pounds on Snoopy.

I'll tell you a secret... all those channels are optional. We went back to basic, basic, bare bones cable last year. We get ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS a couple local independents, C-SPAN and C-SPAN2, WGN and couple worthless shopping networks. $11 a month. As a result, our daughter watches very, very little TV. And guess what? She loves that old stuff -- Rudolph, Charlie Brown, Frosty... and she can't wait until the parade coverage tomorrow morning.

We adults actually watch very little now, too. Most of the shows we like, they end up canceling, so we don't get too involved anymore. Interestingly enough, you'd be surprised how long you can watch C-SPAN when there is nothing else on. It's not bad... no really, I'm serious. Quit laughing, it's not a joke.
